To recompile the linux kernel for your yeelong laptop:

  • fetch the source from http://dev.lemote.com/git?p=linux_loongson.git;a=summary The "tags" section should produce working kernels
  • select a tag. I selected the linux-2.6.27-lemote-2(lm8089) one
  • get the "snapshot". This should start a .tar.gz download of the linux kernel source.
  • copy arch/mips/configs/ls2f_notebook_defconfig to .config

Doing "make" now should produce a working kernel that you can copy to /boot.

To enable wireless:

  • make menuconfig
  • Device Drivers ---> Misc devices ---> EEPROM 93CX6 support
  • Networking ---> Wireless ---> Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack (mac80211)
  • now Device Drivers ---> Network device support ---> Wireless LAN ---> Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11) -> Realtek 8187 USB support becomes available for selection
  • make

It might be that support for wireless was not included in the factory installed kernel because the driver may hang your system.
