I am a supporter of free software...

To find out more about free software take a look at Richard Stallman's book “Free Software Free Society”, as well as http://www.fsf.org/ and http://www.gnu.org, also read about the issues primarily at the philosophy pages of the GNU Project but also in the essays section of fsf.org.

Also check out the pages of you local FSF such as FSF Europe, FSF Latin America, FSF India, FSF France, and see how you can help them.

Get involved in a local Free software or GNU/Linux users group, see the FSF's wiki to get in touch with other free software activists in your area.

You too can support free software by:

• Signing a petition against Microsoft's Office OpenXML becoming an ISO standard.
• If you are in the US phone your senators' offices at 202-224-3121 to oppose the US-Peru “Free Trade” Treaty. It requires software patents and something like the DMCA. (Not to mention other harmful effects on other areas of life.)
• Supporting the FSF by making a donation, becoming an associate member or volunteering take a look at GNU's Taking Action page.

• Oppose the leading proprietary software establishment, support the Bad Vista campaign. Stop Windows Vista adoption and use free software instead, for example by installing a free GNU/Linux distribution such as gNewSense.

• Oppose DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) it is a threat to your freedom. Support the Defective by Design campaign also read about the issues at DRM.info.

• Support the Play Ogg campaign. Spread the word and let people know where they can download the necessary software so that non-patent encumbered multimedia formats can flourish.

• Help high priority free software projects.
• Support the Free BIOS campaign, see if LinuxBIOS can be installed on your system. If you are buying new hardware, try to buy a motherboard that will support LinuxBIOS.
