I am afraid of installing those updates because I do not want to loose my sound again. :-S What should I do? What would you do in my situation?

Hello! Update is what I did, and do all the time. This doesn't mean it's the correct thing to do by any means. We're promised sound "out of the box" soon. I guess if you want free software, this is the price! Hang in there, help is coming. I can hear it! (Pardon the pun!)

kokomojoe21 July 2008, 01:46

This is what I'm afraid of also. I lost my WiFi when I updated before and I have been reluctant to do it again.

wpurcell?21 July 2008, 08:13

Hello. I don't know if you've already updated, but the developers have solved the sound issue. I can't speak for wireless though.

Jocke22 July 2008, 00:25

So it is safe for me to just install those updates now?

Ark7422 July 2008, 06:27

You should define safe, we're working to get a free operating system, if your hardware only uses non free software to operate, then it's not safe, but if you know that it is free go ahead, you'll find a nice change :).
Any way here some of the packages removed

kokomojoe22 July 2008, 07:11

Am I correct that gNewSense missed some non-free components in the ISO image and that the update removed them? Have I been using them? Is that why I have wireless with my intel 3945 card?

That would suck to lose wireless, but I would rather have a free system and plug it in.

I guess I'll update then.

If I don't post for a while, you'll know what happened. : )
