Since a few week, RMS warns about using Mono because it based on
MS patented C#, he declares using Mono is`nt unethical, but
he sees the danger that MS is using C# as a backdoor to
get in the future power over Linux. How does gNS handle Mono in the future? What think the gNS user about Mono?
Ubuntu says Mono will stay in Ubuntu, Debian will deliver
a Mono free installation, but in the repos Mono will be
available.
This distro is sponsored by the FSF, right? Sounds like we should follow the lead of the group that got us here. I used mononono to remove all mono apps and I would recommend you all to do the same.
I don't want to let M$ flank us. We must defend our way of life on all fronts.
I removed Mono last week.
sudo aptitude remove --purge mono-common libmono0
According to junebug and rafu83 I also removed Mono from my 2 gNS Systems today.
Occasionally I used "tomboy" and found in the repositiory "Xpad" as a replacement.
Mono will be gone from the default install in 3.x.

Ive tried to remove with:
sudo aptitude remove --purge mono-common libmono0
but i've received this error:
E: Impossibile ottenere il lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Couldn't lock list directory..are you root?
and I am root :-)
Thanks for the information and good news Graziano. I am really looking forward to the 3.x release.
I removed libmono0 in synaptic "Mark for Complete Removing" and then all Mono related
software was gone away.
Thanks graziano for the good news in gNS 3.x.
The Mono thugs are beating up on RMS all over the blogosphere, over a remark he made that's being spun by his enemies as sexist in nature. The real reason they're attacking him is his stance on Mono, of course, but they can't counter his argument there, so they're trying to smear his good name and get him censured instead. It's getting nasty.
Just be sure if you are going to "completely remove" libmono and related (This will remove fspot and tomboy), be sure to indicate mono-common for complete removal also.
I had to do this second step before installing mononono (to prevent a mono re-infection).
Funny that it has the same name as a social disease, huh? Kiss up to the wrong person (Ballmer) and BAM! He He.
People misunderstands rms. He is not against mono. He is just warning people to thew fact that M$ can sue us at anytime...
I don't get the continued push for Mono at this point. I know the developers have been working on it a long time and nobody wants to see a great deal of work die. I also know it's basic purpose. I get it. I also understand the nuances of the various arguments and the fact that nobody wants to make enemies among friends.
But still, a significant part of the heart of the community has reacted against it. That seems fairly clear.
Irregardless of the technical merits or any good intentions people might have of luring .net developers to free software, why continue down a path when so many people simply will not use what you are making? Why force the issue and divide the community? Why not just join in working to improve Parrot or other tools developed from our community?
