I was just this morning having trouble adding a new post subject. Anyone else having that problem?

I was having problems the other day responding on threads. I've noticed that if you wait too long to post, your message will not be displayed when you post.
I tried again to make a post with several lines pasted in and I posted immediately and nothing happened

Several lines? There's probably a limit on the amount of characters you can post. Are you posting some shell output?
I will break my question down
Can any one comment as to whether the following Synptatic references are bad from a free software perspecitive or could foul a Gnome installation if installed?

I'm not sure why VLC Media Player isn't in the repositories. 'Tis free software. As for the others, I know that the Ubuntu developers accidentally put packages in the wrong categories (non-free in free categories.) I think most non-free stuff is stored in Multiverse. I doubt that anything bad would happen to GNOME if you installed packages from these repositories. The Synaptic Package Manager will tell you if anything is going to be removed upon installation, anyway. Is there a particular piece of software that you're looking for?
I do not recall which of these had caused Synaptic to prompt me that some existing items would be removed. I will just be more careful in the future. Is there a way to know if something is non-free when a package is selected but it is in a free designated package.

I don't know of any way to distinguish between free and non-free except for going to the software's site. Packages are still being weeded out of gNewSense, so it'll take some time for an entirely free distribution. I suppose that it is now, but it still has some bugs that need to be smashed.
VLC is free software but ubuntu put it in their multiverse repository to avoid any patents problem.
To fix this we should have some people maintain a "gnewsense community" repository.
Anyone interested? :)

How would we host it? I've always wanted to know how Ubuntu and gNewSense host their packages with so many clients downloading at 150+ KBPS each.
Tor? — 02 February 2009, 22:55
There are assorted mirrors, and they have more recently started using a deb-torrent that can be optionally installed by interested users. I think the primary difficulty is finding a server farm with a gigabit connection to the outside world, which I believe is mostly a matter of a monthly fee. gNewSense is, I believe, hosted by the FSF on their servers. Perhaps the FSF folks would, or maybe the gNewSense folks (Brian and Paul) can and would create the repository. Once Launchpad is actually freed, I believe they provide repositories to users, so that could be looked into.
On the posting problem: I too have noticed problems posting URLs sometimes, I think particularly with repo lines. Another solution is to break up the urls so the forum can't recognize them (the userATdomain.com trick.) I have gotten into the habit of copying posts to my clipboard before posting in case something goes wrong.
Tor
oh, now we're working, are we?? I see others are having a problem with posting. Me, too!
I've noticed that it depends on what you post. For example, you can't post more than one URL in a post, and I think special characters can mess with the forum system, too.
Total unable to post anything this morning (new post that is)
When I try to create a new topic the view link lights red. When I click on it I get to a login page with the text "Hmm, you're already logged in - you might not have the required permissions for this action.".
I'm sorry if I was unclear, but my last post was more like "I have a problem, please help!" than just a statement.
I still can't create any new topic.
