NvidiaDriverAndGnewsenseProblems

salchicha?08 November 2008, 12:54

Greetings, this is my first time on this wonderfull forum.

1 week ago i installed gnewsense on my computer, i love it, but i wanna play games with wine and this require some 3d acceleration.

I downloaded the NVIDIA driver for mx4000 from the official site of nvidia, i readed instructions, installed but it says "No precompiled kernel was found".

Where can i get the "kernel-source" for gnewsense? i've searched a lot but nothing found.

If someone can giveme some little help i would really appreciate, have a nice day ! =)

Hi and welcome. The proprietary Nvidia drivers are not free software, and should not be installed in Gnewsense. Nor is GLX, which is needed to run 3D.

Nouveau is an open source Nvidia driver.

There is some progress on freeing the GLX: http://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/2008-09-sgi-announcement
