just as the title says, is there a need for any anti-virus or anti-spyware??? and if so, need to know what to use and how to install it, using baby steps

There should be no need for these, most virus are written for windows, so will have no effect on a GNU/Linux system. The only reason to run an anti-virus on your system would be if sharing files with windows users, and want to be sure all downloads are clean before passing them on. Mind you, if they had half a brain they'd scan the files them selves before attempting to open them. :)
