Does gNewSense contain coreboot?

gnuwatch16 August 2008, 19:09

No it does not because coreboot is not part of an operating system. Coreboot flashes to the motherboard as a proprietary motherboard replacement. gNewSense will work with coreboot if it is utilized as your free bios.

According to http://www.coreboot.org/Welcome_to_coreboot

"coreboot (formerly known as LinuxBIOS) is a Free Software project aimed at replacing the proprietary BIOS (firmware) you can find in most of today's computers."

It is not proprietary software. Although almost all (if not all) BIOS's are proprietary, which means a free GNU/Linux OS should not run on any of these mother boards... Which brings me to my main question... Which mother boards will a free GNU/Linux OS run on?

the advent of having the ability to easily change a machine's bios is relatively new. therefore, until that point, it wasn't an issue. when it became clear that it was an issue, the free software movement started tackling the problem. 'Which mother boards will a free GNU/Linux OS run on?'.. there is only 1 gnu/linux operating system, and that is gnu/linux. which motherboards are supported by a free bios, such as the free bios project coreboot, is easily enough obtained by simply visiting their web site. shalom.
