Short version: It won't work. :-P

Long version: It won't work because the installer if for Windows and possibly Mac OS. You don't need the installer, and I don't recommend that you try to install the drivers yourself. The drivers on your disc will most likely be proprietary licensed. To use gNewSense, you should have an understanding of free (as in freedom) software and proprietary software. Here, I'll give you some links:

Anyway, I doubt that anything will pop-up when you plug in your adapter. Thank goodness for this, as it's one of the things I hate about Windows. However, a little icon should be displayed in the upper-right hand corner with two computers. You may need to reboot in order to refresh your network settings, or right-click on the network icon and disable then enable your network connection. Your card may not work at all. Check this list for compatible cards and adapters: www.fsf.org/resources/hw/net/wireless/cards.html

Try this: type lspci in a terminal (click Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and type: lspci

Paste the output here.

IMO with an USB key it's lsusb that will give wifi card reference.

Cobalt23 March 2009, 02:34

Yeah, Junichiro's right. Try lsusb instead of lspci then paste the output here. Sorry about that.

Nevermind, I found your adapter's specs. Free wi-fi drivers for gNewSense are still being written. This may get your adapter running: http://aligunduz.org/gNewSense/

It has instructions below, but if all else fails, someone could help you via comments or remote desktop.
